OXD worked with the Royal BC Museum to help them launch a cleaner, more modern homepage for their public website.
Not every redesign project needs to rebuild everything from the ground up. Sometimes small interventions can make a big difference. We worked closely with Royal BC Museum staff to improve their website experience through a redesigned homepage design that better reflects the world class, research driven museum.
The Royal BC Museum is one of Canada's leading museums and research centres, showcasing 550 million years of natural history and 9,000 years of human history in British Columbia, Canada.
Creative director Wil Arndt led a cross-disciplinary team of Royal BC Museum staff through OXD’s “design jam” process—a variant of Google Venture’s popular Design Sprint methodology, customized to meet the practical constraints of our clients. In one action-packed afternoon, the team explored the nature of the challenge, diverged on many possible solutions, and then converged on the right approach from a content and audience perspective. Then, using a heuristic based on fundamental design principles, we redesigned the homepage to fit within the constraints of the Museum’s current brand guidelines and website while making numerous hierarchical and visual design improvements.
The Royal BC Museum holds a special place in our collective hearts, and we were thrilled to be able to work with their knowledgeable staff on this project.
