Leveraging a long-term partnership to accelerate innovation
Honeywell Versatilis™ is a comprehensive suite of digital services empowering managers and engineers to efficiently manage and maintain site instrumentation throughout the entire lifecycle of jobsite assets. Developed in collaboration with OXD, Versatilis™ provides cutting-edge tools that offer unparalleled control and efficiency in monitoring instrument health and status. This innovative solution streamlines operations, enhances productivity, and ensures optimal performance of critical equipment across various industrial settings.
Key components of the Honeywell Versatilis™ suite
- Insights dashboard: Provides site managers with a clear understanding of their site’s health, enabling quick, informed decision-making.
- Lifecycle app: A mobile-ready tool that allows field engineers to locate instruments, update data, and order replacements easily.
- Configurator: Facilitates instrument configuration, with user experience and design input from OXD.
OXD’s previous success in designing Honeywell’s SmartLine Level Transmitter application—which reduced ordering process time by 3.6 times the industry standard—set the stage for our collaboration on the Versatilis™ suite. (Read more about our work with application and validation tool for the SmartLine Level Transmitter here.) This user-focused approach led to solutions that matter most to Honeywell’s customers.
OXD’s multidisciplinary approach: we build teams, not projects
While Honeywell’s in-house teams possessed deep industry knowledge, partnering with OXD brought specialized expertise in user experience and digital product development that elevated the Versatilis™ suite to new heights.
Bringing fresh perspectives to complex workflows
OXD’s team of UX experts, software engineers, and QA specialists complemented Honeywell’s internal resources with fresh, user-centric perspectives. Our researchers identified the need for bulk document uploading, QR code scanning, and seamless integration with SAP (enterprise resource planning software)—all features that enhance user productivity but might have been overlooked without our specialized focus on user needs.
Data-driven UX decisions
OXD’s human-centred design approach brought rigorous user research and data analysis to the project. This led to innovations like the dashboard in Versatilis™ Insights, tailored to the diverse needs of site managers based on in-depth user studies.
Creating a cohesive customer experience
Working closely with Honeywell to improve their suite of digital services, we complemented and co-coordinated their in-house teams in an Agile process that spanned several continents. Our designers and software engineers worked with and built upon the Honeywell Design Language—a visual design system established by Honeywell’s internal design team—to create a user interface that reinforced and aligned with the Honeywell brand. This ensured that products developed by different teams across the globe—North America, Europe, and India—resulted in a cohesive experience for the customer.
Elevating quality assurance
Our quality assurance engineers made sure everything worked correctly by integrating security testing and automated regression testing into the Agile workflow. OXD’s specialized QA process, including user-centric testing scenarios, complemented the technical testing. This comprehensive approach resulted in a more intuitive, user-friendly final product that meets both technical specifications and user expectations.
Continuous UX improvement
By partnering with OXD, Honeywell gained ongoing access to UX best practices and emerging trends. This long-term collaboration allows for continuous refinement of the user experience, keeping Versatilis™ at the forefront of user-centric design.
The Honeywell Versatilis™ Insights application offers site managers incredibly detailed information about their instruments.
